註: 屬名 Gelasimus，拉丁文原意為「buffoon」(丑角、小丑)，用以形容雄蟹看似滑稽之求偶行為，因此中文稱「丑招潮」；種小名源自「boreus」，即北方之意，這是由於 Crane 當年命名時認為此亞種僅分布於較北的香港與台灣一帶。
