註: 屬名「Ocypode」源自希臘字「okys 快速的 」以 及「-pod 腳 」的組合，即飛毛腿 (
fleet-footed 或 swift-footed) 的意思，因此曾有「racing crab」的稱呼，表示其驚人的奔跑速度。「ghost crab」(幽靈蟹) 的稱呼，乃源自其善於忽隱忽現的行為，由於其體色接近沙粒、驚嚇時能迅速隱沒於洞中、以及快速的奔跑能力，因此令人有幽靈般的錯覺。種名字首「cerat」為「有角的」，字尾「ophthalm」則是「眼」的意思，因此英文名為「horned ghost crab」(角眼幽靈蟹)。References
